Case 3: Implant Restorations

Implant therapy has enabled this gregarious, athletic guy to continue enjoying his many activities without missing a beat. His treatment has been done in phases. He had advanced periodontal disease and it was becoming increasingly more difficult for him to eat comfortably. The lower back teeth were the first to go and were restored with three implant crowns on each side. The next phase was to restore his failing upper dentition. Because of advanced bone loss we were unable to strategically place enough implants to restore this area with individual crowns or bridges. We decided that the next best thing was to make a bar overdenture without a palate so that the roof of his mouth was free to enjoy food and drink to the fullest. This appliance has the stability and biting force equal to his original teeth. These restorations also replace the missing bone and gums lost to periodontal disease and are rock solid during function. Oral hygiene is easy since the overdenture appliance can be removed by the patient to clean both the denture surface as well as the bar in the mouth.

Reason for treatment: Tooth mobility and pain upon chewing made it difficult for this gentleman to enjoy life to the fullest.
